2006-2007

Did you know…

Lopatcong students and teachers earned numerous distinctions:

  1. A first grader’s writing received first place at the New Jersey Association for Gifted Children.

  2. The eighth grade Lopatcong debate team placed second in Warren County.

  3. A seventh and an eighth grader were among the top 100 students in the New Jersey Reader’s Digest vocabulary contest.  The eighth grade student came in second.

  4. Two students were recognized for their writing ability while participating in the Promising Young Writers Program.

  5. Two students were honored for their artwork displayed at the Crayola Binney and Smith Dreammakers contest.

  6. Three seventh/eighth grade students were selected to the 2007 NJ Junior High All-State Chorus.

  7. Two fifth/sixth grade students were accepted to the 2007 NJ Elementary All-State Chorus.

  8. The Middle School Chorus received Superior second place ratings at the Hershey Park Music Festival.

  9. Several Lopatcong students received the honor to attend the Warren County Sixth Grade All star band.

  10. Several Lopatcong band students were selected to perform in the Phillipsburg Area Honor Band.

  11. Lopatcong students took second place at the Battle of the Books competition.

  12. Lopatcong is the only district in Warren County that participates in the New Jersey Special Olympics Program.  Four students went home with medals.

  13. A fourth grade teacher was named WLEV 100.7 FM "Teacher of the Week."

  14. Lopatcong is the only district in Warren County that raised its NJ School Report Card scores by five percent in nine separate categories.

  15. Lopatcong’s GEPA and NJASK scores are higher than the state, county, and district factor group averages.

Lopatcong students excelled in leadership qualities:

  1. The Student Council President was selected as the NJ Middle Level Representative of the Year.  We are the only school in state history to win this award five years in a row.

  2. The entire Student Council won the distinction of "Honor School" at the State Leadership Convention nine years in a row.

  3. We have received the Standard of Excellence Award, which is the highest award a Student Council can earn.

  4. We are a member of the National Leadership Network.

  5. We send students to the Student Council State Wide Convention held in the summer for advanced leadership training.

  6. We have 12 seventh grade students nominated for the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.

Lopatcong students volunteered and raised funds for the following organizations:

  1. American Heart Association

  2. Norwescap Foodbank

  3. Big Brothers-Big Sisters Organization

  4. Diabetes Foundation - Coordinated a Walk-a-Thon that raised over $10,000; the district was recognized as a champion school for their community service and effort

  5. First Book - A non-profit organization

  6. Third Street Alliance - A local shelter

  7. Penny Brigade - We have the third highest donation in its history

  8. Heifer International - Four student representatives were featured in The Express-Times for their efforts

  9. Member of the "Over $1,000 Club" for seven years - A statewide honor that shows how much money we donate to charities

 Lopatcong is educationally innovative:

  1. Three staff members have developed and performed "Math Rocks" - Highlighted in local newspapers and broadcasts.  Selected to be featured on NJN’s "Classroom Close-up."

  2. Three teachers presented a workshop on technology called "Kick It Up a Notch" at the Lehigh University Middle Level Workshop.

  3. The Lopatcong School District has introduced and is continuing to increase the use of a new computer technology in the instruction of the instrumental music.

  4. We received an "Excellence in Education" award at the 2006 NJSBA Convention for our implementation of the MATRIX (Math Achievement to Realize Individual Excellence) grant.  This grant is aimed at increasing achievement by integrating  technology.

  5. Lopatcong Township received a grant from the Geraldine Dodge Foundation.  This grant funded the diversity project between Lopatcong Middle School and the Avon Avenue School in Newark.

  6. Dozens of students have participated in the following activities:

A fourth grade class, in collaboration with Warren Hospital, sent letters and pictures to soldiers overseas.
